Nakamura Residence, a traditional house in Okinawa

To visit Nakamura Residence, take Naha Full-Day Private Tour with Government Licensed Guide. Not many tours visit Nakamura Residence.

It seems that traditional Okinawan farmhouses are no longer seen on the main island of Okinawa. If you go to a tourist facility such as Ryukyu Mura, you can see a private house that has been relocated and restored.

But the Nakamura House is a private house that has been preserved as it was in its original location, and is designated as an important cultural property of the country. Specified.

The existing Nakamura family residence is said to have been built in the middle of the 18th century. Like the nearby Nakagusuku , it is surrounded by a stone wall made of limestone from Okinawa. The photo below shows the entrance from the outside. There is no gate along the fence like a Japanese house.

This is the main house (Ufuya). The shisa on the roof is definitely Okinawa, but the floor plan has a similar atmosphere to a Japanese house. It is said that there is an influence of Japanese architecture in the Kamakura and Muromachi periods.

The picture below is Shisa. The sky was cloudy, so the background was too bright to get a clear picture.

This is the entrance of the main house and the part of the living room. There are tatami mats.

Flowers were arranged. The table with the drawers on which the vases are placed is a bit like Korean furniture from the Joseon dynasty. I don’t know actually.

This is the view of the backyard from the main house. The backyard immediately slopes and surrounds the mansion.

This is the decisive difference from mainland houses. It’s a pigsty (fool). It seems that each enclosure was kept one by one. Besides pigs, they also had goats, horses and cows.

The interestingly shaped building below is a grain warehouse called Takakura. It seems that the reverse slope part of the roof is for the mouse return. The one-time portion is like a warehouse or work space.

There is a souvenir shop in front of Nakamura House. You can also have tea here. I bought sata andagi and it was so delicious that I intended to buy it as a souvenir, but my family ate it all in the car.
