Overview

Nakijin Castle Ruins, located in the village of Nakijin in Kunigami District, Okinawa Prefecture, is the former residence of the king of Hokuzan, a kingdom that existed before the establishment of the Ryukyu Kingdom in the 14th century. It is designated as a National Historic Site and a World Cultural Heritage Site, and is renowned as one of the most prestigious castles in Okinawa alongside Shuri Castle.

History and Highlights

This Castle is believed to have been built in the 14th century and flourished as the residence of the Hokuzan king until the establishment of the Ryukyu Kingdom. The ruins are situated on a hill 150 meters above sea level. It offers a wealth of attractions, including beautifully crafted curved stone walls and the Uchinohara, which provides a panoramic view of the entire castle complex.

Nakijin Castle Ruins is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes by car from Naha Airport and 40 minutes by car from Nago Bus Terminal. Parking is free.
